RICHARD SAMPSON BIO
|
|
Richard Sampson has been an artist since he was very young. After going to art school and getting degrees in Painting and Sculpture, Richard settled on trying to perfect the fine art of Assemblage. He has been collecting objects since the 1960's and he has a vast collection to "pick and choose" from. These are used in his
art pieces--many that are shown on this website. Richard was very fortunate to grow up in South America. He says--" My Father worked in the U.S. State Department so we moved
every few years. I was born in Lima, Peru and grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Sao Paulo, Brasil and graduated high school in Bogota, Colombia." He continues--" Each one of these countries influenced my later
art work. For instance-- the language of Spanish and Portuguese gave me ideas about visual poetry. The music--Tango in Argentina, Samba in Brasil and Cumbia in Colombia. The tropical atmosphere of Brasil--the sun, birds, snakes and monkeys. And the yearly Carnaval Celebration with exotic costumes and wild and colorful parade floats. The church architecture of Buenos Aires--deep, mysterious interiors with solemn catholic altars. The roadside altars outside of Bogota built spontaneously alongside roads where people had died in car accidents. And finally the gracious people that I met in all of these countries--proud, noble and creative. Abrazos! to all!" I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, USA and welcome your e-mails via my FlyingFishArtStudios.net
